Choosing the right payment gateways and processors for your digital offer

This is part 17 of the divine download series. When I started building my digital business, one of the biggest hurdles was setting up a payment system that was both professional and accessible. I have personally used WordPress to build my website, Stripe to accept card payments globally, and Payhip to sell digital products with ease. Each tool has played a specific role in making my customer experience smooth and secure without needing a huge tech team behind me.

WordPress gave me the freedom to customize my storefront exactly how I envisioned it. I used plugins like Payhip to manage product delivert and checkout options. Then I integrated Stripe, which is my go-to for processing credit and debit card payments. Stripe supports over 135 currencies, making it perfect for a global audience, and it allows me to offer one-time payments, subscriptions, and even payment plans.

But depending on where you are based, you might need other solutions. For example, Square is great for U.S., Canada, Australia, and the U.K., especially for both online and in-person sales. Razorpay is commonly used in India, Paystack is popular across West Africa (especially Nigeria), and Mollie works well for businesses in Europe. If you are in Southeast Asia, 2C2P and Xendit are commonly used, while Flutterwave is also an emerging option for African entrepreneurs. Most of these processors offer local currency support, fraud protection, and integration with major platforms. There are obviously many more so please make sure you research one that fits your business model. No matter which tools you choose, here’s the process I recommend:

  • Define your needs: do you need subscriptions, one-time payments, or payment plans?
  • Explore platforms: like Teachable, Kajabi, or Shopify based on your product type.
  • Assess costs: check for transaction fees vs. monthly subscriptions.
  • Test the user experience both from your side and the customer’s.
  • Understand gateway options and check for international compatibility.
  • Prioritize security with PCI-compliant processors.
  • Test the full integration before launching.

A well-integrated, secure payment system builds customer trust and frees you to focus on what matters most serving with excellence.
