Listing your core competencies and marketable & high – income skills

I highly recommend you take the time to assess your own skill set, list everything you are good at, and then focus on the few key areas that align with your passion and market demand. This clarity will not only give you direction but will also help you build a business that reflects your unique gifts. As a multi-passionate creator, I had so many skills, so many interests, and so many possible paths that I found myself spread thin. I could do a lot but that didn’t mean I needed to do everything. So I did something simple but powerful: I made a full inventory of my skills. Everything I would ever done well, then I asked myself:
- Which of these do I love doing?
- Which of these are in-demand?
- Which align with my long-term vision and the kind of life I want to build?
I realized I had not only the lived experience (as a beauty entrepreneur) but also the certifications and coaching background to back it up. And in a world where e-Commerce is booming, that skill became my edge. But I didn’t stop there. I decided to own my positioning by refining both:
- The technical side: setting up online store, managing backend systems, mapping out sales funnels
- The creative side: storytelling, digital product creation, branding, customer experience.
That exercise showed me that while I had many options, there were a few standout strengths where I could make the biggest impact. That clarity became the foundation of my business moving forward. When you zoom in on your core competencies, you don’t limit yourself you amplify yourself. Because when you know what you do best (and how it helps others), your brand, your content, and your confidence all become undeniably aligned.
Take at least 20 minutes and list everything, I mean nothing is too small. Whatever lights you up? What you are really good at? What do people consistently come to you for? Which of these skills are most valuable or in demand in the space I want to impact? Based on that, what 2–3 competencies can I begin to focus on more intentionally in my brand or business? Now how can you start packaging that skill into a service, digital product, or offer that helps my ideal audience solve a real problem?
