How to write a Positioning Statement that connects & converts using classical rhetoric

This is Part 13 of the Divine Download Series. A positioning statement is the heart of how you show up and serve online. It tells your audience who you help, what transformation you guide them toward, and why you are uniquely qualified. I will share mine at the end of this post to give you a concrete example how to write yours.
We will turn to six timeless rhetorical elements rooted in classical Greek philosophy: ethos, pathos, logos, kairos, topos, and telos. These words each carry a rich meaning beyond mere marketing tools they reveal how persuasion works on a human level and how you can honor your audience’s experience while sharing your purpose.
- Ethos: means character or custom, this is trustworthiness. People needed to believe in you before accepting your message, so the way to do it is to share your lived experience, values, or unique journey that builds trust. Why do you have the right to lead?
- Pathos: translates as suffering or emotion, this is how connect emotionally with your audience’s hopes, fears, and desires. So you want to reflect the emotional reality your audience is living. Show empathy and understanding so they feel truly seen.
- Logos: means word, reason, and also hints at a divine, purposeful order we know speech is the tool of creation, God said and it was, so this speaks to the clear, rational structure of your argument. Clearly state what you help people do and how you guide them.
- Kairos: refers to the right, appointed moment timing that’s about more than the clock (chronos). It is about seizing the perfect moment to speak. Explain why now is the perfect time for your audience to hear your message.
- Topos: means place or location as common ground shared beliefs or cultural contexts to build from. So you want to meet your audience where they are mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Understand their context so your message lands with clarity and relevance.
- Telos: means ultimate end, purpose or goal. It reflects the deeper reason behind everything we do. Express the larger vision or transformation your work aims to bring. Your telos shows your audience there is meaning beyond the immediate offer. It is about legacy, and a higher calling. Now, write your positioning statement by combining these six elements, check out how I wrote mine:
“I am a Christian entrepreneur and certified business coach who helps feminine creators create aligned digital businesses. My approach is rooted in my lived experience and Spirit-led strategy (Ethos), offering clear, actionable frameworks that cut through the noise (Logos). I know what it us like to battle self- doubt, burnout, and delay so I lead with empathy and truth, not pressure (Pathos). I speak to women who are tired of hustle culture, ready for a more grounded, God-honoring way to build (Topos). And I do this now in a time when the internet has democratized business, giving women everywhere unprecedented access to create and lead on their own terms (Kairos). Because I believe your gifts were never meant to stay buried, they were meant to serve, multiply, and bring glory to God (Telos).”
